“Some history must not be rewritten” – Gov. Charles Chukwuma Soludo

From 1975 to 2025: A Street, A Man, and the Fight for History

In 1974, a young man from Ebonyi left his homeland and settled in Anambra. The following year, in 1975, he cleared and graded a path that would later become a major community link. He didn’t just build a road — he carved a legacy.

His name? Pa. Peter Uzodimma.
His legacy? Abakaliki Street.

That very year, he officially registered the street, proudly naming it after his ancestral home — a symbol of unity, cultural pride, and peaceful coexistence between the people of Ebonyi and their Anambra hosts.

For over four decades, Abakaliki Street stood as a historical thread connecting two great peoples. But in 2018, without public notice or consultation, the street was renamed Club Road, erasing not just a name, but a living memory.

💔 “It was like watching my history disappear overnight,” Pa. Uzodimma reportedly told friends.

🔁 History Restored: Governor Soludo Steps In

Fast forward to 2025… Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, in an act of statesmanship and historical sensitivity, has restored the original name: Abakaliki Street.

This singular action goes beyond politics — it's a recognition of heritage.

The move has been applauded across the Southeast, with thousands praising the Governor for acknowledging the emotional, cultural, and historical relevance of names and places.

Ebonyi citizens, especially the elder statesmen, are filled with pride as Abakaliki Street regains its rightful identity.

And special appreciation goes to Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, who reportedly weighed in to support the restoration.

🧓 Pa. Uzodimma: The Forgotten Hero Now Celebrated

As the dust settles, one man’s heart is full again.
Pa. Uzodimma, now in his 80s, can finally smile knowing that his quiet sacrifice and historic contribution have not been forgotten.

“The street was never just about me,” he once said.
“It’s about our people, our roots, and our shared future.”
