Unfinished Promises? The State of Governor Nwifuru’s Palace Roads and Bungalow Projects in Ebonyi.
While there has been much talk and even some early excitement about the developmental strides of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration—especially his promise to construct 2km roads leading to traditional rulers’ palaces and befitting bungalows for them—current realities paint a less glowing picture.
Across many communities in Ebonyi State, these much-publicized projects remain largely incomplete, raising serious questions about delivery timelines, political sincerity, and accountability.
🛣️ THE STATE OF AFFAIRS
1. Unfinished Palace Roads
The promise to construct 2km access roads to the palaces of traditional rulers was initially met with joy, seen as a way to improve access and elevate the dignity of these community icons.
But on-ground reports show a different story:
- In many areas, only grading or foundation-level work has begun.
- Entire road stretches remain unpaved and motor-unfriendly, especially problematic during the rainy season.
So… when will they be completed?
Why are traditional rulers still enduring inaccessible roads months after the promise?
2. Bungalows in Limbo
Governor Nwifuru had also pledged modern bungalows for each traditional ruler. A thoughtful idea on paper—but in reality:
- Some structures are stuck at foundation or window level
- Others remain mere cleared land, with no visible progress
- Many rulers are still in their old homes, awaiting promised upgrades
⚠️ IMPLICATIONS OF NON-COMPLITION
🔻 1. Erosion of Trust
When traditional rulers—the custodians of culture—are promised upgrades and it doesn’t happen, it **weakens trust** in the government’s words.
💸 2. Wasted Public Resources
Incomplete projects don’t just sit idle—they "deteriorate", making them more expensive to resume later.
👑 3. Harm to Traditional Institutions
These bungalows and roads are more than infrastructure—they symbolize "respect for tradition". Leaving them unfinished sends a poor message.
🗳️ 4. Political Skepticism
As talks of a "second term" for Governor Nwifuru begin to circulate, these "incomplete promises" may come back to haunt the administration.
📢 Final Thoughts
For Governor Nwifuru’s government to earn continued support and truly impact the state:
- It must shift focus from announcements to action
- Prioritize completing ongoing projects
Show visible, tangible results—not just flag-offs and rhetoric
Because at the end of the day, Ebonyians don’t vote for promises—they vote for progress.
